Norfolk Prison Colony's Debaters Beat College Team for Sixth Time

Convicts at the Norfolk State Prison Colony last night bested a crack College debate team for their sixth win in nine meetings with Harvard.

Speaking on the negative of "Resolved; that the United States Government should adopt a policy of Free Trade," the Norfolk team earned a two to one decision.

On the Debate Council team were President Richard A. Levin '54 and Treasurer Verne W. Vance '54, both of whom have participated in the Council's recent victories over Princeton and Yale.

Arguing for Norfolk were George M. LeLievre and Francis P. Keaney, who was participating in his last debate for the Colony. Keaney was on the team which last year lost to Harvard after a string of three consecutive wins in as many years. The defeat marred the prisoners' phenomenal record, including wins over Oxford and most Ivy league teams.

The debate was held in the Assembly Hall for the Colony, located in Norfolk, Mass. The Colony orchestra provided music.

On the Norfolk schedule for the rest of the year are Williams, West Point, McGill, Penn, and Holy Cross.
