Big 3 Tie Possible as Yale Beats Princeton

With 23 seconds remaining in the game, a 12-yard pass play gave Yale a 26-24 victory over Princeton at Palmer Stadium last Saturday and thus gives the Crimson a chance to force a tie for the Big Three championship this weekend.

Larry Reno, a quartermiler turned end, set up the score by hauling down a Jim Lopez pass heaved from the Eli 45 on the previous play. Quarterback Lopez then tossed one o Bob Poole standing on the four, and the right halfback scored.

A Bob Martin field goal capped the power running of Royce Flippin and Homer Smith to give Princeton a 17-0 halftime lead. But Yale's Pruet, Brink, Shears, and Corelli ground the Tiger's lead down to three points before Lopez put the Blue ahead with a 20-yard run.

Princeton's Dick Emery, who passed the Tigers to victory over the Crimson, then broke loose for 70 yards to put his team in the lead once again, but the two Lopez passes neutralized the run.

Ed Molloy, who injured his ankle in pre-season practice for Yale, was third-string quarterback in the game but did not figure in any of the scoring.
