Carr Tops Passing, Total Offense; Culver Takes Second in Ivy Rushing

Columbia's Dick Carr moved into first place in both passing and total individual Ivy Group offense, and his number one receiver, Dale Hopp, took the lead in pass catching, after the Lions' 25 to 19 victory over Dartmouth last week on four touchdown passes.

Homer Smith, sturdy Princeton fullback, still holds the ground-gaining lead with 493 yards and the Crimson's John Culver is second with 382.

Carr's four passes were good for 363 yards, a new one-game Ivy passing mark, breaking the old record of 322, set last year by Carr's predecessor, Mitch Price. The total gave him a total offense figure of 882 yards and put him in front of Princeton wingback Royce Flippin, who has collected 808.

He has also completed the most passes, 55, and most touchdown passes, eight.

Thompson Scoring Leader

Hopp now has totaled 23 completions, seven against Dartmouth, to move ahead of Penn's John Lavin with 20. Dave McLaughlin of Dartmouth leads in touchdown pass completions with six.

Two Brown players lead or are near the top in season totals. Tommy "TD" Thompson tops the Group in scoring with 43 points, one touchdown ahead of Smith, and Pete Kohut is second both in pass completions with 45, and in touchdown passes with seven.

Princeton still leads the circuit in offense with an average of 310.7 yards per game. Yale heads the defensive yardage column, allowing an average of 176.3 yards. Princeton also leads in total ground yardage per game with 181.3; Dartmouth's 145.1 yards per game figure tops the passing column.

Carr's football prowess led the Lions of Columbia to a 25 to 19 victory over Dartmouth last Saturday. Against the Indians, the junior from Beverly, Mass., completed 19 out of 36.

Culver has only slim chances to gain on Smith this week, needing 111 yards to tie Smith's record as it stands now.
