Ed Smith, former Crimson basketball captain, will be lost to the New York Knickerbockers for about two months with a broken hand.

Smith was injured in the fourth quarter of the Knicks' National Basketball Association game against the Minneapolis Lakers last Saturday. X-ray examination yesterday revealed a broken fourth metacarpal bone in his left hand.

Knickerbocker coach Joe Lapchick said he would not bring up another player to replace Smith, but would get along with a ten-man squad.
