Rink to Remain Open This Season As Drive Falters

Harvard's new hockey rink--scheduled to open this winter--will not have a roof for at least another year, Alexander H. Bright '19 said last night.

Bright, who started a drive to finance the roof last June, said that the lack of funds has stopped the drive, but only temporarily.

"We had quite an active group working for a while," Bright stated, "but we realized that it was too late to start a drive in the summer, with a lot of people away."

The group collected $62,000 of a necessary $350,000.

Pusey Shows Interest

Bright added that he plans to start the drive again, possibly after President Pusey speaks to the Varsity Club this Friday. "He has shown a great deal of interest in undergraduate affairs, and perhaps this impetus will help the drive," Bright said.

The rink, which will be used for varsity practice and House games, will probably be finished by the beginning of November. Tentatively, it will be dedicated on November 7, the day of the Princeton football game. A meeting will be held later this week to plan ceremonies.

No plans have been made as yet concerning the naming of the rink.

The varsity will play its home games in the Boston Garden this year, and the the Boston Arena will be reserved for high school contests.
