The Rev. Dr. Dana McLean Greeley, minister of the Arlington Street Church, criticized President Pusey for remarks about the late President Eliot in his Divinity School speech.
Speaking before his congregation, Sunday, Greeley attacked Pusey's statement that Eliot "would have considered the doctrine that Christ came into the world to save sinners so much twaddle."
"If Dr. Pusey is referring to the traditional doctrine of atonement then we must acknowledge that Dr. Eliot did not believe in this doctrine," Greeley said.
"But I do not think that he would call it twaddle, for he had too much respect for all men's religious convictions and aspirations," he pointed out.
