'Cliffe Petition Hits Council; Ask Revote on 11 p.m. Rule

A petition demanding that the Radcliffe Student Council reconsider the question of 11 o'clock sign-out permissions was circulated last night by the Council's secretary and treasurer. The Council, buy a vote of 14 1/2 to 7, last week defeated a proposal to extend the time limit from the present 10 o'clock.

Janet Titus '55, Council secretary, and Mary MacGregor '55, treasurer, asked in the petition that the 11 o'clock sign-outs be put in effect on a five-week trial basis "as soon as possible."

Charging that last week's Council vote "did not reflect or even consider student opinion," Mary Ellen Reinert '54, Editor-in-Chief of the Radcliffe News, pointed to last year's News poll as evidence that "Radcliffe is overwhelmingly in favor of the 11 o'clock sign-out."

Statement Challenged

Lois Dickson '54, President of the Student Council, challenged Reinert's statements about student opinion. "Last springs's poll by the News was hardly accurate," she commented. "The question asked was 'Would you like an 11 o'clock sign-out?,' and even the News will admit that no strong consideration was given it."

Reasserting the Council's former decision, Dickson said that an 11 o'clock permission would result in too much noise and the dorms "generally being open too late."
