Yanks Edge Bums, 4-2, On Homer by Mantle, In 2nd Game of Series

Mickey Mantle, the New York Yankees' 21-year-old glamour boy, powered a 375-foot home run with Hank Baner on base in the eighth inning yesterday for a second straight Yankee victory over Brooklyn, 4-2, before 66,786 World Series fans.

Mantle's blast broken open a brilliant pitching battle between lefthanders Eddie Lopat of the Yanks and Preacher Roe.

Outhit by the Dodgers, 9 to 5, the rallying Yanks tied the score on Billy Martin's homer in the seventh. Then Mantle's blast, following a single by Bauer, finished Roe.

Vic Raschi 13-6 and Carl Erskine 20-6, a pair of righthanders, will be the opposing pitchers in today's third game, the opener at Brooklyn's Ebbets Field.

Vic Raschi, 34-year-old veteran of five previous Series, has a 5-2 record in Series competition. He can tie Allie Reynolds' six victories by beating the Dodgers today.
