Liquor Board Grants Beer License Hearing To Smoker Committee

In an effort to out costs, the Smoker Committee will petition the local Board of Licouse Commissioners Tuesday afternoon for a license to purchase beer whole sale. The Board, which is responsible to the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, last year turned down a similar request.

The Smoker Committee's application will be submitted by Dominique B. Wyant 81. Secretary of the Union and adviser to the Smoker. The Licouse Commission which will hear the case is composed of three men: Chief of Police Patrick J. Ready. Fire Chief John Collins, and lawyer John E. Quinn.

Chief Ready yesterday told Peter Hearst '56, Chairman of the Smoker, that it would be all right as far as he was concerned for the Commission to grant the Rescue provided the beer was not sold.

Miss Ryan, Secretary to the Commission, who will also attend Tuesday's hearing maintained that the Board would not give the Smoker a Licouse, because the party was almost exclusively for fresh men, all of whom are legally minors, Le under 21. The law, she held, banned net only the selling. but also the serving of beer to minors.
