Superior Court Upholds Decision To Revoke Sage Liquor License

The Suffolk Superior Court yesterday upheld a decision of the State Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission which revoked a liquor license of Edwin R. Sage Co., of Brattle Square.

Judge Thomas H. Dowd awarded a disputed liquor license to Stanley L. Moriarty of Fairfield St., chief examiner for the bonus division of the State Treasurer's office.

The A.B.C. had earlier revoked the license of the Sage Co. and awarded it to Moriarty. Both principals have been trying to conduct business on a Memorial Drive site, near Magazine Beach.

In announcing his finding, Dowd dismissed the petition of the Sage Co. that had sought to quash the action of the A.B.C. in authorizing the license to Moriarty last November. The Sage Co. contends it had gained the necessary license from the Cambridge Liquor License Commission.

Sage Will Fight Back

The Sage Co., which runs a delicatessen and liquor store on Brattle st., indicated through counsel Edward Dangel it will appeal Dowd's ruling to the State Supreme Court. Dangel said he didn't think he "had been given a full hearing in this court." He argued he did not have ample chance to present his case.
