Russell M. Johnson '58 of Worcester and Winthrop House was yesterday elected captain of the 1953 varsity baseball team at a meeting of lettermen immediately following the 8 to 7 loss to Yale.
Regular first baseman both this year and last, Johnson is a solid right-handed batter who finished the season with an average of .376 after a torrid start, which saw him hitting above .500 over the first few weeks of the schedule.
