8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Arrangements for the 100th anniversary celebration of the Harvard-Yale crew race, to be held on Lake Winnepesaukee, New Hampshire, on August 3 have been delayed by many obstacles, but athletic officials of both colleges are still confident that the scheduled meeting will take place.
The varsity crews of both colleges will probably not compete, and the first problem of the sponsors of the meeting will be to provide the two representative crews, probably pick-up eights. This race has no bearing on the annual four-mile race held in June, but will be only a replica of the first regatta between the two colleges.
The first race was held on August 3 at 6 p.m., 100 years ago over the two-mile course on the same lake. The Crimson, which entered only one shell, beat the Elis, although Yale had two shells competing. The race was held before a holiday crowd including Franklin Pierce, then a presidential nominee.
The New Hampshire Lakes Region Association has been planning this celebration for some time, and, although it will come at the peak of the tourist season, there will still be accommodations if the Association's arrangements are successful.
