The varsity baseball team, currently lodged in fourth place in the Eastern Intercollegiate League, has a chance to move up a notch in the standings tomorrow when it faces Dartmouth in a double-header on Soldiers Field at 2:30 p.m.
Coach Bob Shawkey, ex-New York Yankee hurler, brings his nine to Cambridge with an overall record of five wins and ten losses, and a league record of two wins and three losses. A clean sweep tomorrow would give the Crimson a record of three and four, and place them ahead of the Hanoverians. A spilt would keep them where they are now; a double setback could put them in the league cellar.
Stuffy McInnis has three starting pitchers ready for the twin bill: right handers John Arnold (1-1) and Jack Donelan (1-1) and left hander Rufus Webb (1-1). Arnold hasn't seen action in a week, the others in ten days.
Dartmouth will start its ace right hander. Frank Logan, in one of the two games. In the other it will probably use Mike McDonald or Don Belcher, two promising sophomores. So far, most of the heavy hitting by the Green has been done by its flashy, sophomore keystone combination of Bob McGrath and Don Swanson, both of whom are hitting over 300.
Stuffy McInnis will stick with the same lineup that beat Northeastern, 7-3, on Wednesday.
The freshman baseball team will be trying to close its season with its sixth win of the season when it meets Tabor Academy at Marion tomorrow afternoon. The Yardlings are in a three game losing streak, having suffered defeats by Andover, Dartmouth and Yale.
