When the varsity lacrosse team faces off against Yale on New Haven's Lapham Field at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow, it will be fighting to salvage a season.
A Crimson victory today, coupled with the fine showing Coach Bruce Munro's squad made on its early Southern trip, would mean that the 1952 team was merely victim of a mid-season slump.
If the varsity loses, the Southern trip would be shrugged off as an inconsistent flash-in-the-goal.
Munro would like to win this game-he has never coached a Crimson lacrosse team to a victory over Yale in three previous tries.
"We could do it," he says, thinking of the excellent performance the varsity turned in down South. "And then again, we could fall apart," he adds, remembering the losses to Dartmouth and Williams.
Munro had done two things in preparation for an upset. He had drilled the squad on fundamentals-"the basic stuff"-this week, and he has shaken up his mid fields for the first time this year.
Aggressive Al Sawyer has moved up to join Ron Huebsch and Pete Brooke on the first unit, and Hank Wood has been promoted to the second trio, where he'll play with sophomores Phil Waring and Todd Goodwin, Chuck Edwards, Skip Baldwin, and Jim Telfer are the third midfield.
Eight of the ten starters are seniors.
The probable lineup: Thomas, goal; Byrne (C), Spence, Maroni, defense; Brooke, Sawyer Huebsch mid field; R. Baldwin, Aiello, Yost, attack.
