Freshman Baseball Squad Meets Rugged Eli in New Haven Today

Twenty-three Yardling baseball players a move into New Haven early this afternoon to play the powerhouse Yale freshmen at 4 p.m. The thrice beaten freshmen will be definite underdogs against the undefeated Elis.

Crimson Coach Adolph Samborski will start almost the same team that lost to Dartmouth last week in an effort to finish the season with a 6 and 3 record. Ted Cooney will lead off and play left field. Joe Conzelman will play second and but second, while Jimmy Rahal, who got two of the Yardlings four hits against Dartmouth, will be at third.

Bill Chauncey will bat in the cleanup position and play center field with captain George MacDonald catching and batting fifth. Steady Paul Murphy, who got a single, against the Green, will bat sixth and play shortstop. Utility man Dick Hoffman in right field, constitutes the only change in the lineup. Used sometimes as a pinch hitter, Hoffman has caught three games for the freshmen. Garry Cranney will start at first base and hit eight.

Little Support

Andy Ward, the pitcher, will be out to even his own record at 3 and 3 today. Ward, a big righthander who got off to a fine beginning, pitching a two hitter and a three hitter in his first three outings, has had bad luck in his last starts, getting little fielding or batting support.

Ward will be pitching against a team that has won seven straight games with a 315 squad batting average. Hugo Guldotti, with a 615 average, and captain Phil Mathias, with a 489 average lead the Blue hitters.

Yardling batters will face the pitching of either Connie Corelli or Bob Davis. Daves has a 3 and 0 record and a 0.93 earned run average. Corelli has five up two hits in 14 games, and great Andover, a team that defeated the Crimson.

For Yale, the batting order will be Sciffion, 2b; Walker, ss; Johnson, if; Mathias, 3b; Guidotti, 1b; Stein, cf; May, rf; Brink, c; Corelli or Davis, p.
