Tennis Team Triumphs Over Lord Jeff's; Injury Riddled Lacrosse Team Tips Tech

AMHERST, April 30--The Amherst varsity tennis team stopped the Crimson shutout string at three today but couldn't prevent Jack Barnaby's club from gaining its fifth victory in a row, 5 to 4. The Yardling net team meanwhile trounced the Lord Jeff freshmen, 8 to 1.

Charlie Ufford lost his first singles match to Ed Wesley, last year's New England Intercollegiate runner-up; the Crimson captain came back strong in the doubles, however, when he teamed with Bill Goodman to beat Wesley and Dave Meaker in the final and deciding match of the afternoon.

Art French, Dave Watts, Don Bossart, and the doubles team of Bossart and John Rauh provided the other Crimson wins. A number of Barnaby's reserves also made the trip and played informal matches with Purple extras to give the varsity a match total of 10 won and 5 lost for the day.

Yardling singles victors included Geoff Ball, Ed Koerner, Mike Levinson, Bill Wister and Danny Mayers; these five plus Bob Crouch formed the three winning freshman doubles teams. The Crimson was without the services of its captain and number one man, Alex Haegler, who has the measles.

Yardling "B" Lose

The only loser today was the freshman "B" net team, which dropped a 6 to 3 match to St. Marks on the Soldiers Field courts. Elliot Vesell, Roger LaViale, and a doubles duo of Bats Wheeler and LaViale gained the only wins for the Yardlings.
