Tommy Tucker, one of the nation's leading band leaders, will provide the music for the Regatta Weekend's Straw Hat Ball, it was announced last night.
Tucker, who has been playing in the West recently, was signed by dance committee chairman D. Terry Coles '53 yesterday, after four weeks of preliminary negotiation.
Tucker's 13 piece unit will be supplemented by vocalist Karen Rich (above).
According to Coles, it was very difficult to get a large band to play the sort of standard, danceable music which he felt the College community would demand. Tucker agreed to come only after he had signed a long run contract with a prominent New York hotel.
Members of Coles' committee are: Richard Rabkin '53, decorations; Thomas J. Madden, Jr. '53, tickets; Richard Bruer '54, secretary; Thomas G. Michos '54 and David M. Osnos '53, co-treasurers for the dance; and James O. Robertson '54.
The dance will be held in the Indoor Athletic Building.
