Lacrosse Squad Drops Three but Looks Good Against Tough Teams

The varsity lacrosse squad won only once in their five-game southern trip, but the Baltimore "Sun" called it "the greatest Harvard lacrosse team in 25 years."

Although the sole win came against Stevens, 10 to 5, in the opener, the high spots of the safari were the losses: to Maryland, 6 to 3; to Washington College, 13 to 11; and to Navy, 8 to 7.

All three teams, particularly Navy and Maryland, are lacrosse powers. The Crimson, though, ignored reputations, hustled and played as a unit, and very nearly won each game.

After a bruising 4 to 4 tie with Hofstra (besides a 200-mile auto trip), the Crimson showed great speed and team coordination against Maryland. All the Terrapin goals came with Harvard a man short.

The "cutting" game of the Crimson midfielders completely baffled Washington two days later. Their accurate shooting helped the visitors to a 7 to 5 half-time lead. Washington, unfortunately, proved too strong after the intermission.

Only fatigue prevented the underdog Crimson from upsetting Navy in the finale Saturday.
