Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. today in the Appleton Chapel for Lewis Jerome Johnson '87, professor of Civil Engineering, emeritus, and for 62 years a member of the College faculty.
Johnson, who died Tuesday night, was a constant contributor to the development of the social sciences and engineering. He originated Plan E for city government, the present governing arrangement in Cambridge. He also promoted the Initiative and Referendum amendment to the Massachusetts Constitution in 1917. Since then it has been adopted throughout the country.
