Bunnies Top Deacons As House Ball Begins

Leverett beat Kirkland in both hardball and softball while Eliot and Dunster split, as the baseball season opened across the nation yesterday.

Lefty Scott Ricketson held Kirkland to only one hit as the Leverett hardball team topped the Deacons, 4 to 2. Although Ricketson showed typical early season lack of control, and walked eight, he had the stuff in the pinches. Bunny hitting was paced by Dave Lang and Bucky O'Connor.

In the softball game, Leverett overcame an early 8 to 1 Kirkland lead to win, 10 to 9, in the last frame. Squeak Leary, Lowell Sachnoff, and Dick Meyers each got three hits for the winners.

Luke Lockwood and Fred Rhinelander combined to pitch Eliot to a 4 to 2 win over Dunster, with Nat Harris hurling for the losers. Ron Peyton accounted for two of Dunster's four hits, while Eliot scattered three. In softball, the Dances overwhelmed the Elephants, 23 to 4.
