Student Committee Plans Petition for Skating Rink

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A new student committee will immediately start circulating a petition for the construction of a skating rink for the University, George W. Chase '52 announced yesterday.

Chase, chosen head of the group at an organizational meeting last night, said the petition will be presented in the near future to the Corporation, the Board of Overseers, and the faculty.

"We're trying to find out the actual amount of student interest in the building of a hockey rink here." Chase said, "and we think we can get enough signatures to make this statement a real indication of student support."

Members of the group from each of the seven Houses, Dudley, and the Yard will take charge of circulating the petitions, starting today.

Players From Committee

Chase said the committee as it now stands is composed mainly of House and varsity hockey players, but will welcome all undergraduates who are interested in the skating rink project. Walter F. Greeley '53, captain-elect of the hockey team, and Robert M. Weiss '54, the hockey squad's assistant manager, will help Chase to coordinate the group's activities.

Last month Alexander F. Bright '19, former Varsity Club president, gave over $20,000 in the start of a new alumni drive for a rink.
