The Old Howard, famed retreat of Harvard students, and the oldest theatre in Boston, will close this Saturday, reports owner and manager Rufus A. "A1" Somerby.

This closing date is five to six weeks earlier than previous ones and has raised speculation over the possibility of the theatre changing hands. Joseph Sacks, publicity manager, said that the business this year hasn't come up to expectations, but that has nothing to do with the untimely demise. The management reports Sacks, needs the added rest.

The theatre was opened in 1843 as the Millerite Tabernacle of a now defunct seet. It then was re-christened the Howard Athenacum and became one of the leading legitimate theatres in the country. Gaining its present name, the Old Howard is now world famous for strip tease presentations. Rose LaRese noted laterpretative daneer, will be the last of the Howard's long line of greats.
