Handel's Opera, 'Semele,' Has U.S. Premiere at Lowell Tonight

Lightening strikes at Lowell House to night when the Musical Society presents the first American performance of Handel's opera, "Semele." The flash, which is part of the climax of the seldom performed work, heralds the death of Semele, the heroine.

The title role will be played by Anne English of the New England Conservatory of Music, while her lover, Jupiter, will be Robert Peters of the Longy School of Music. Malcom H. Holmes '28 will conduct. Tickets, ranging in cost from $3.60 to $.90, will be available to late purchasers at the door.
