Outweighed, unknown Frank Yoffe of Dudley scored the upset of the House boxing season at the Blockhouse last night when he battered the heavyweight championship away from Arnie Horween.
Another startling upset was Ed Carey's close decision over Ken Herlihy of Leverett. Winthrop's Carey was strong in all three rounds, scoring hard with the left and ducking back.
'Point tabulations for the House bouts showed Dudley edging Leverett 19 points to 18 and Winthrop third with 10. Freshman scores had Wigglesworth West in front with 12 points.
Summary of House bouts: 125 pounds--Rogar Hagald (Leverett) decisioned Gene Mann (Kirkland); 135 pound--John Nyhan (Dudley) forfeited to Bill Klein (Leverett); 145 pound--Ed O'Neal (Leverett) decisioned Frank Dewar (Dudley); 155 pound--Ronnie Noonan (Winthrop) decisioned Herb Kaufman (Dudley); 165 pound--Ed Carey (Winthrop) decisioned Ken Herlihy (Leverett); 175 pound--John Nugent (Dudley) decisioned Herb Hoffman (Dudley); Unlimited--Frank Yoffe (Dudley) decisioned Arnie Horween (Eliot).
Freshman winners were: 135--Bob Schoenberg (Wigglesworth West), 146--Nat Wyner (Matthews South), 155--Harry Manoogian (Weld North), 165--Buddy Ingoldsby (Hotworthy), 175--Joe Couseiman (Wigglesworth West), Unlimited--Joe Rose (Wiggiesworth West).
