The varsity fencing team easily defeated Boston University, 19 to 8, yesterday afternoon at the I.A.B. in their first league match of the new season.

Three-bout winners for the Crimson team were foil men Jan Jertson and Captain Eric Sollee and saber men Harry Ziel and Byron Morton. Steve Chandler took two bouts in the foil division as did George McNair in the epee competition. Bob McConaughy, Warren Stone, Jack "Windmill" Smith, Les Scherer, Phil Erard, and Ivan Chermayeff completed the varsity lineup.

The fencers will meet Army Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Blockhouse in their next match. The Crimson is favored, although the Cadets are expected to offer stronger competition than B.U. did yesterday. After Army, the varsity schedule includes a Columbia match, a pentagonal meet in New York City, a Yale match, and finally the intercollegiate championships.
