3 Oaks to Replace Diseased Yard Elms

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A new arboreal era starts in the Yard today.

The Department of Buildings and Grounds will plant the first of three oak trees this week. The oaks replace elms taken down recently by the Department after they became afflicted with Dutch Elm disease.

Cecil Roberts, superintendent of the Department, announced Saturday that no more elms will be planted anywhere around the University. Oaks and maples will take their places.

Three more elms are under observation and will probably come down next spring.

The new trees will be from 10 to 12 inches in diameter when planted.
