Whether they woo Radcliffe girls or not, a surprising number of students are marrying while they are still in the University, according to Mrs. Myles Baker, Director of the Office of Harvard Wives.
Mrs. Baker said she has received word of 1,886 married couples at the University to date, but adds that the number will increase by 100 to 150 by the end of the academic year. She compared these figures to the period directly following the Second World War, and remarked it surprising the number has not decreased by more than half.
The only pre-war figures that still exist, those of 37-38, show 393 married couples in the graduate schools. Law, which had only 19 marriages in that academic year, now has 282.
