A spokesman for the Guggenheim Foundation has defended a grant made to John K. Fairbank '29, professor of History. Fairbank has been labeled a communist by Louis Budena former Communist leader.

Henry Allen Mee. secretary of the Gusgenheim Foundation, told a Rouse committee investigating fax-free foundations that there was no credible doubt concerning Fairbank's loyalty to the United States.

Fairbank is presently in Japan on the grant for historical studies of Japan and China.
