Students who need extra scholarship funds can now apply to the Student Council for awards of 15 to 25 dollars a term, Robert S. Boit '53, chairman of the Scholarship Committee, announced last night.
Each year the Council takes $800 from money donated by University students and splits it into 60 to 70 scholarship awards. Boit said the basis for the awards is solely need and desire of students for self help.
100 Applicants
Last year approximately 100 students applied for the awards. Boit called this figure average, and said he hopes to have more applications this year.
Of the Council's activities, which include reports and recommendations as well as decisions on student matters, Boit called the scholarship program "the only direct service which the Student Council extends to the students of the University."
