None of the Law School professors who taught here from 1922 to 1924 remember what kind of a student Adlai Stevenson was.
Some, however, do recall him vaguely, and one knew him as his sister's beau. Arthur E. Sutherland, professor of Law, who studied law with Stevenson, remembers him as "a nice fellow, one of the best in the Princeton group."
James A. MacLachlan, professor of Law, cannot remember Stevenson's academic aptitudes, but, said MacLachlan, "he dated my sister." MacLachlan, who has been an Independent Republican for 20 years, added: "We didn't take him too seriously in my family."
"I can't remember him back then," said Manley O. Hudson, Bemis Professor of Law, "but I know him now, and he's my choice for a change. We've been friends for years."
"It's strange to think you may have taught a President and can't remember him," said John M. McGuire, Royall Professor of Law.
Austin W. Scott, Dane Professor of Law, commented: "The Princeton crowd sort of faded into each other."
