Harriers Pick Gerry To Lead '53 Squad; Ex-Captain Returns

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Harold J.C. Gerry '54 of Leverett House and Spartanberg, South Carolina, will be the varsity cross country captain next year.

Gerry finished first for the Crimson twice this year, and crossed the line in a dead heat with this year's captain Emil Sans Soucie. He never finished lower than second on the team. Gerry won a letter last fall and another last winter as a two-miler on the track team.

He took third in the Yale-Princeton meet this fall, leading the team to its first Big Three title since 1942. He finished eighth in the Heptagonal meet and 52nd in the IC4A championships.

Every member of this year's team will be back next fall. Emil Sans Soucie captained the team this year as a junior since there were no seniors out for cross country.

Hal's brother Jim ran for the Yardling harriers this fall, and finished tenth in the Big Three Freshman meet.
