Freshman Football Team Travels Northward To Face Rugged Andover in First Game

By David L. Halberstam

The Crimson's freshman football team, traditionally a pre-season powerhouse, will try to turn a lot of nice sentiment and runor into cold, hard facts this afternoon at 2 p.m. when it opens the season against Andover.

Coach Bob Margarita, who didn't win a game all last year, means business; he had the squad practicing for almost two hours yesterday, and frankly admits that although be wants to "look at a lot of boys, we're going up there to win."

Orville Tice, a six foot two inch outside tackle from New Haven's Hillhouse High, where he was captain, was appointed game captain by Margarita.

Teaming with him at inside tackle is John Maher, an inch, taller and ten pounds heavier. The guards are Tom Jones, one of the many Pennsylvania boys on the squad, and Bill Meigs.

Joe Pettiford and Bob Morrison, a pair of six footers will start at ends, while Joe Bodiker, a highly touted Dayton, Ohio lad, will be the center.

Dick Oehmler, a hard hitting 158-pounder and an excellent kicker, will start at tailback. Bill Volmer, a Salem boy, will be at fullback, while Jim Donaghy will start at wingback. The blocking back will be Joe Crehore, last year's Andover co-captain.

Next contest on hand for the Yardlings is next Saturday, against Worcester Academy at Worcester. During the course of the season they will also face Dartmouth and Brown, climaxing with the traditional Yale game on November 21.
