Kremlin Communique Asking Kennan Recall Surprise for Fainsod

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"Russia's demand for the withdrawal of Ambassador George F. Kennan is a surprise to me," declared Merle Fainsod, professor of Government, yesterday.

Fainsod, who is head of the Russian Research Center, said that he thought Moscow had accepted the American envoy.

Refusing to theorize on the reasons behind Russia's action, he added, "I'll have to think this over." But it is known that kennan had made vicious attacks on the Soviets at Berlin recently.

The Kremlin has never liked Kennan, the Associated Press claimed yesterday, because of his repeated criticisms on Communism.

Kennan has a daughter at Radcliffe who is now a junior.
