Arrest Ex-Instructor As McCarthy Heckler

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

F. Dale Pontius GS '28, who taught here in the University's Government Department during the '30's, was arrested by Chicago police during Senator McCarthy's Monday night speech. He was charged with disorderly conduct for heckling and attempting to interrupt the speaker.

When police seized the 46-year-old heckler and hustled him out of the Palmer House grand ballroom, he accused them of "gestapo tactics" and of being "fascists." He did not pay to get in to the $50-a-plate dinner.

Pontius is a member of the Institute of Pacific Relations. He objected to McCarthy's charge that that organization was communist-controlled.
