8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Brain Reynolds moved up to the first string offensive backfield yesterday afternoon, as the varsity football team went through it first long scrimmage of the week in preparation for Saturday's game with Dartmouth.
Reynolds, who has started at defensive halfback but has done most of his offensive work on kickoff returns, was playing in John Ederer's wingback spot. Ederer was "bumbed" in the Colgate game, and officials are still not sure if he'll be able to go against Dartmouth.
French Moves Up
Art French, substitute defensive back, moved up to Reynolds' defensive post. French, son of a Harvard football captain, has played little this year.
Jeff Coolidge, second string offensive center, who played only when starter Buddy Lemay was favoring a bad ankle, worked out at defensive guard. Coolidge should see service against the Indians, either behind Lemay or at guard.
The Crimson went through a prolonged offensive scrimmage against Bob Margarita's freshmen, with John Culver and Dick Clasby doing most of the carrying.
J. V. Runs Plays
Meanwhile the defense worked out against Dartmouth plays which were run off by Norm Shepard's junior varsity. Ron Messer and Bob Hardy at linebackers, French and Bob Cowles at halfbacks, and Dick Duback alternating with Sam Fyock at safety made up the varsity defense. Sophomore Tom Campbell, who has been working with the jayvess most of the season, alternated with Cowles at halfback.
