Residents of the Second Middlesex District, which includes Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8 in Cambridge, will break a long-standing tradition November 4th if Mary B. Newman has her way.

Mrs. Newman, wife of the Associate Director of the Psychological Laboratories, is presently attempting to become the first female state representative in the history of her Ward. Running on the Republican ticket, she's conceded a good chance to achieve her goal according to local experts.

Works 12-Hour Day

With the aid of her husband and several University professors, Mrs. Newman has been waging an aggressive campaign. She has been averaging close to twelve hours work a day, including a lot of house-to-house campaigning.

Most active supporters of Mrs. Newman's campaign have been Arthur N. Holcombe '06, Eaton Professor of Government, and Zacharish Chafee, Jr. University Professor, along with Jerome B. Wiesner, Director of the Research Laboratory of Electronics at M. I. T.

The Second Middlesex District was created in 1940 and voted Republican is every election until 1950 when present incumbants Francis Good and Walter Sullivan were elected.
