Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower's announcement that he would accept the Republican nomination for president if offered, caused a number of ramifications among University Republican factions.
Martin J. Cinador Jr. 3L, a founder of the one-month-old Taft for President Club, said that Eisenhower's statement will have "no effect" on their plans, since they "have considered him a full fledged candidate from the first."
The Eisenhower for President Club expressed satisfaction that the five star general openly asserted his party affiliation. They feel that Eisenhower's non-electioneering will not hurt his chances for nomination at the G.O.P. national convention to be held in Chicage next July.
Said John L. Easton Jr. SL president of the club. "Now we can swing "the delegates from this congressional district to Eisenhower."
The Harvard Young Republican Club itself will not back any pre-nomination candidate, stated President John B. Harrington SL last night. He added that, according to information received from Republican sources across the nation, dissatisfied young voters seem to be moving over party fences to the Republican side. "Therefore," he concluded. "I think we are going to win the election no matter who our candidate is.
