Sextet Takes Consolation Title at RPI Tournament

Although the varsity hockey team did not win the championship in the R.P.I. invitation tournament held at Troy, N.Y., on December 27, 28, and 29, the fourth-seeded Crimson still came back with a winning record for the vacation play. After losing to unneeded R.P.I. in the opener, 6 to 2. Cooney Welland's boys took the consolation title by beating Williams, 13 to 0, and Dartmouth, 2 to 1, a overtime. Brown won the tourney.

Besides the Harvard-R.P.I. game on the first day of play, St. Patrick's of Ottawa beat the Indians, 3 to 1. Loyola of Montreal beat M.I.T., 7 to 0, and Brown beat Williams, 10 to 1. Walt Greeley scored both goals for the Crimson in the first game, which was marred by nine penalties, including a major 5-minute and game misconduct penalty charged against Crimson forward Billy Timpson. R.P.I., with two Canadians sparking its attack, had no trouble with Harvard.

On the second day the Crimson breezed by Williams, while Brown beat R.P.I., 5 to 0, and Dartmouth defeated M.I.T., 4 to 0. Amory Hubbard and sophomore Norm Wood both turned the hat-trick for the Crimson with three goals apieon. Dick Clasby scored twice, while Greeley, Bill Bliss, Nat Harris, George Chase, and Tony Patton each got one. Brad Richardson, who had played the previous day in the Williams goal when the Ephmen's regular goalie was delayed in getting to Troy, took over in the Crimson nets from Nate Corning. Richardson also played in the Dartmouth game.

Against Williams Harvard started very slowly, with only one goal in the first period, that by Clasby at 0:16. Only two penalties were handed out in the entire game.

On the final day Brown won the title by beating St. Patrick's, 5 to 3, R.P.I. beat Loyola, 7 to 2, and Williams beat M.I.T., 4 to 2, while the Crimson was edging Dartmouth. Greeley drew first blood for Harvard by slapping in Hebbard's pass at 17:47 of the first period, but Indian Joe Leary came back with the tying goal at 17:14 of the second period unassisted. The third period showed fast, scoreless hockey, but Timpson broke up the game at 2:30 of the sudden-death overtime. Clasby got the assist
