Boston School Committeemen discussed the purchase of the Boston Arena at their first meeting of the new year last night. In another development, the hearing before the committee on Metropolitan Affairs on purchase plans being made by the Metropolitan District Commission was not held as acheduled.
The M.D.C. proposal included provisions for the Crimson hockey team, but it is not known whether or not the sextet could use the facilities under Boston School Committee ownership. The Garden will be available for college play, regardless.
Opinion was divided among members of the School Committee as to the advisability of spending a reported $4,00,000 for the rink. Dr. Patrick J. Foley originally proposed the purchase of the Arena so as to bring high school hockey on an equal plane with fall and spring sports.
Chairman Isadore H. Y. Muchnick also favored the move, but no action is expected until a complete investigation has been made.
