Crimson track men will appear in abundance at tonight's Knights of Columbus meet at the Boston Garden, but only Ron Berman in the 600 and three relay teams are likely to attract much notice.
Berman will be racing in his third big-time 600 in the last two years. Last year he finished third twice against the best runners in the East. Tonight he will be up against two Olympic prospects, veteran Mal Whitfield and George Rhoden. Whitfield, however, has been having his troubles indoors, while Berman has shown he can stick within range of Rhoden.
The Crimson mile relay team will face Yale, Princeton, and Dartmouth. The illness of Ed Grutxner will somewhat weaken the group, but Bob Twitchell, Phil Meyers, John Packard, and Berman will be able to give a good account of themselves. The two mile relay team, made up of Jim Downey, Joe Richards, Dave Cairns, and Dave Gregory, will be slight favorites in their race. Bob Rittenberg. Paul Grand, Warren Little, and Alan Howe will run in the freshman relay.
Dick Barwise and Brian Reynolds are entered in the high jump, with the former having an outside chance to place. Bob Twitchell is entered in the dash and hurdles in addition to the relay. Freshmen Rittenberg and Collins will also run in the hurdles and dash respectively, while track captain Bill Geick will be a third Crimson sprint entry. Bob Mello and Ed Jacobson are entered in the pole vault but won't stay in contention with Don Lax, Bob Richards, and Don Cooper, all three of whom have cleared 15 feet.
