The general public is learning about economics at "a discouragingly slow rate" and the college student is only a little better off, the Brookings Institution stated recently in a published survey of economic education.

Only about one-quarter of the nation's college students are exposed to courses in economics, according to the Institution report.

The Institute complained that "in none of the texts most widely used do we find a strong exposition of the virtues of free private enterprise ... rather, most emphasize the short-comings..."
