University Orders Extra Protection For McKay Home

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

University maintenance men will place bullet-proof plastic over a stained glass window in the tomb of the University's most generous benefactor, Gordon McKay, "as soon as possible" to protect it from any renewed attacks by vandals, Irving B. Parkhurst, director of the Department of Buildings and Grounds, said yesterday.

Earlier this summer, vandals hurling missiles shattered the window protecting the inside stained glass at McKay's tomb in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. No damage was done to the stained glass itself, however.

But the University, which is entrusted through McKay's will with the care of the tomb, is not taking any chances. Its maintenance men went to Pittsfield earlier this month to place a temporary board over the window, and plan to return soon to put in the transparent plastic covering.
