The following concludes the report by the Student Placement Office on the enlistment and commission policies of the services. The earlier section was printed in last Saturday's paper.
Marine Corps:
1. Enlistment--Regular
a. Age: 17 (with parental consent) to 28.
b. Married or unmarried.
c. Period: 3 or 4 years.
d. Draft status: Not eligible after receipt of orders to report for induction, except with permission of local board at end of college year.
e. Training: 8 weeks basic at Parris Island, South Carolina. Further special training and/or unit assignment.
f. Where to enlist: Marine Corps Recruiting Office, Post Office Building, Devonshire Street, Boston.
2. Enlistment--Reserve
Same as enlistment--regular. This involves immediate active duty.
3. Commissions--Regular
a. Competitive tour of duty as a reserve officer.
b. United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland.
4. Commissions--Reserve
(Platoon Leaders Course)
a. Open to freshman, sophomores, juniors.
b. Training: 6 weeks basic at Parris Island, South Carolina with rank of Corporal during first summer. Then, 6 weeks advanced at Parris Island, South Carolina with rank of Sergeant during second summer. (Note: commission contingent on receipt of degree. Candidate must not have reached his 25th birthday by July 1st of year he receives degree). Finally, active duty for 21 months.
c. Where to enlist: Marine Corps Recruiting Office, Post Office Building, Devonshire Street, Boston.
5. Commissions--OCS
a. Open to seniors or graduate students.
b. Training: 10 weeks basic OCS at Parris Island, South Carolina, then, 5 months basic training after receipt of commission at Quantico, Virginia. (Note: Candidates must hold degree by end of 10 weeks at Parris Island and not have reached 27th birthday by July 1st, 1951.) Finally, active duty for 21 months.
c. Where to enlist: Marine Corps Recruiting Office, Post Office Building, Devonshire Street, Boston.
Coast Guard:
1. Enlistments--Regular
These are closed at present. Those who wish to go on a waiting list may do so at the Custom House, 7th Floor, State Street, Boston.
2. Enlistment--Reserve
Same as Enlistment--Regular.
3. Commissions--Regular
a. Competitive tour of duty as a reserve officer.
b. United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn.
4. Commissions--Reserve
a. Age: 21 to 26.
b. Married or Unmarried.
c. Bachelor's degree.
d. Mathematics through trigonometry. (Note: these are currently closed, but applications will be accepted).
