Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
There'll be the usual speeches, honoraries, and reunion festivities, but the University has nary a plan for any special celebrations this month to mark the advent of Harvard's 300th Commencement.
University Marshal Dr. Reginald Fitz '06 said yesterday that Harvard will just "run an ordinary commencement program" during the annual ceremonies June 17 through 21.
"We've celebrated so many three-hundreds already," explained Secretary to the Corporation David W. Bailey '21, "that people would probably be tired of any more ceremonies."
The biggest previous celebration was the Tercentenary Exercises of September, 1936. Then, in 1942, the College marked the actual 300th anniversary of the first awarding of degrees. The latest Harvard "300th" to occur was the anniversary celebration last spring by the Corporation.
