New Students' Advising Body Nearly Picked

Almost all of the 70 undergraduates who will begin the Student Council's freshman advising program next fall have been chosen, Richard L. Bushman '53 said yesterday.

Bushman, chairman of the Council's committee on advising, reported that the chairmen of the Houses have selected 45 men who will advise a group of 100 members of the Class of 1955 on such matters as social life, extracurricular activities, and courses.

Council Sends Out Letters

This summer the Council will send out letters to incoming freshmen who will be the sole representatives from their schools in '55. The advising group, which will be headed next year by Howard A. Shapiro '53, will end up with 100 freshmen, ten of whom are to be football players.

The undergraduate advisers have been chosen by their House chairmen on the basis of "all-aroundness" according to Bushman. They will be active in extracurricular affairs and be at least "fair" students.

William G. Perry, Jr. '35, director of the Bureau of Study Counsel, said yesterday that his office had not been informed of the plan. "However, I am glad to see anything new in advising, and am interested in seeing how the experiment turns out."

Next January the Council committee will submit a report on the results of its experiment. If results are satisfactory, the plan will be expanded.
