A new $3.600, 18-foot kiosk is giving Square policemen a safe haven from which to castigate passing motorists. Opened yesterday, the booth features all around vision, a specially designed observation chair, a built-in loudspeaker system, and a series of aluminum drain-pipes designed to keep occupants dry and alert in any weather.
The kiosk replaces a jerry-built booth which graced the other side of the Square for over ten years. The original booth was one of the first in the country; it has been a favorite target for passing motorists, and has been demolished twice by large trucks.
Chief comment around the Square was on the new booth's architecture--Gulf Station Colonial.
The kiosk is expected to help unknot the Square's traffic problem which has been at the root of many traffic accidents in recent years. It is hoped that the new booth will more traffic through the Square faster, especially in rush hours.
