Hudner Named to North Squad for All-Star Game

Munro 'Disappointed' In Squad's Lineup

By Bayley F. Mason

Lacrosse captain Rick Hudner was named yesterday as the Crimson's sole representative to the North-South All Star lacrosse squad. The high-scoring attackman will play midfield in the North-South game on June 9, at Ronsselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Although pleased that Hudner should receive one of lacrosse's highest honors, Coach Bruce Munro yesterday expressed frank displeasure at the North-South selections.

Munro was particularly surprised that Hudner, considered the best attackman in the Northeast, should have been named to play on the midfield. Hudner's forte is his playmaking and dodging behind the cage, whereas midfielders work the ball up and down the field.

The Crimson coach pointed to the anomaly of Gordie McWilliams of Williams, a midfielder who played only one season of attack for the Purple, shifting to attack in the North-South game while Hudner plays midfield. Munro, however, does hope that Hudner can be switched before the game. Performances at R.P.I. will be a large factor in All-American selections.

Munro also was keenly disappointed that midfielder Dick Post and goalie Syd Clark were not named to the squad, since to two players have turned in better performances in the New England League this season than League opponents named to their positions on the All-Star squad.

Three Other Ivy Leaguers

Besides Hudner and McWilliams, three other N.E.L. players were picked for the North-South 21-man squad. Bob Fiertz of Dartmouth and Andy Rockefeller of Yale will both play midfield on a North team which includes men from the nation's two top teams, Army and Princeton. The South squad has players form three Crimson opponents, Navy, Johns Hopkins, and Maryland.

A Harvard All-Opponents team was chosen at a dinner given Wednesday in honor of Munro. Dartmouth and Springfield placed three men each on the tenman team. Three of the four N.E.L. players on the North-South squad, incidentally, were picked to the Crimson team prior to the release of the All-Star selections. The missing player on the Crimson team is Yale's goalie Dick Treadwell.

All-Opponent Team:

Attack: McWilliam (Williams), Wadleigh (New Hampshire), and Patterson (Springfield); Midfield: Fiertz (Dartmouth), Rockefeller (Yale), and Lyons (Dartmouth); Defense: Atwood (Springfield), Fields (Yale, and Bloomer (Dartmouth; Goal: Vincent (Springfield).
