Friedrich Goes to Heidelberg June 6 For Jellinek Talk

Carl J. Friedrich, professor of Government, has been invited to speak June 6 at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Friedrich will celebrate his 50th birthday the day before he speaks at his alma mater.

His address will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birthday of George Jellinek, a German jurist. Jellinek was professor of Law at Heidelberg for several years before his death there in 1911. He also was the author of several books on jurisprudence.

Friedrich received two degrees from the German university. He earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in 1925 after becoming a Doctor of Laws. He has returned to his native country several times since he became a U.S. citizen in 1938, once in the post-war period when he served as governmental affairs advisor to the U.S. Military Government.

Fridrich gives Government 104, a course on the history of political thought for honors candidates.
