Letters concerning the financial needs for building Radcliffe's new Holmes Hall will reach all 'Cliffedwellers today. Mildred P. Sherman, Dean of College Relations, sent the letters in conjunction with those sent to the parents, explaining that the students themselves could best explain the need for dormitory expansion.
In answer to recent commuter complaints about the music library being moved from the Annex library to the new dormitory Dean Sherman has said that this should increase affiliation between dorm and commuter students as there will be a constant exchange between the academic and dormitory Quadrangles. Also, the houses are closer to many commuters than is the regular library.
Final estimates for the building alone, excluding $50,000 for furnishings, reach $730,000. The late Georgine Holmes Thomas left $530,000 in memory of her father with the hope that the money would be spent on something to help music lovers.
