James Jay Byrne '52 of Great Neck, New York, and Winthrop House was elected yesterday as captain of the varsity lacrosse team. The five foot seven inch, 170 pound defenesman, who succeeds Rick Hudner as captain of the 1951 New England champions, is the first public school graduate to lead the ten since the war.

Byrne, one of the most consistently Byrne, defensemen for the past two seasons, played lacrosse in the Long Island high school circuit and moved onto the first defense as a freshman. The 21-year-old junior is a member of the Naval Reserve and may possibly be activated before next season opens.

Robert Shaw Oliver Harding '52 of Rumson, New Jersey, and Winthrop House will manage next year's club, and Allan Gifford Barry, Jr. '53 of Milwaukee and Kirkland House was named yesterday as winner of the sophomore managerial competition.
